BRAND IDENTITY
WeHo 40th Anniversary
Kilter designed a bold graphic identity to help the City of West Hollywood celebrate the 40th anniversary of its incorporation.

Founded in 1984 by an unlikely coalition of LGBT activists, seniors, and renters, West Hollywood is a city like no other in the world. With a vibrant arts scene, a thriving LGBTQ+ population, and a robust spirit of community activism and civic pride, WeHo continues to make a disproportionately large impact on the cultural life of Southern California. When it came time to mark the 40th anniversary of the city's incorporation, West Hollywood wanted a brand that joyfully celebrated its proud history and core values.

WeHo tasked Kilter with developing an exuberant and extensible brand indentity to help ring in their 40th anniversary.

The identity we created was built around a vibrant, pluralistic illustration language—expressive, layered, and built to hold the full range of WeHo's people, history, and culture. Rather than forcing everything into a single visual metaphor, we crafted a living breathing system capable of celebrating cultural and political milestones in the same visual breath.
Deliverables spanned street banners, bus shelter ads, and digital and print advertising, with swag produced for the city's annual West Hollywood Day celebration. The centerpiece was a set of collectible silk-screened posters—a series that let 40 years of pride, progress, and community speak for itself.
