City of West Hollywood: Hello WeHO
Kilter partnered with the City of West Hollywood to launch Hello WeHo, a vibrant new platform for connecting residents with stories about what’s happening across the city.

The City of West Hollywood had long been celebrated for its progressive values, cultural influence, and strong sense of community. But like many municipalities, they faced a challenge: how do you cut through the noise of government communications to reach younger, digitally-native residents who weren’t engaging with traditional city channels?
West Hollywood needed a fresh approach—one that felt less like typical government messaging and more like the vibrant, creative community it served.

The City of West Hollywood enlisted Kilter to help launch Hello WeHo, a new storytelling platform designed to make city news and programs feel accessible, engaging, and unmistakably WeHo.

We knew that to reach younger audiences, Hello WeHo couldn’t look or feel like typical government marketing. We developed a youthful, vibrant illustration style that broke from municipal convention—playful characters that captured the diversity and personality of WeHo’s residents, set against bold, colorful compositions that demanded attention.
The illustrated characters became the campaign’s signature, reflecting the community’s authentic diversity while creating a visual language that felt welcoming rather than institutional. Paired with a friendly direct tone of voice the campaign positioned the city as an approachable neighbor rather than a distant bureaucracy.
The launch campaign included bus shelter ads, print collateral, and digital assets that introduced Hello WeHo across channels. Each touchpoint reinforced the same message: this is your city, telling your stories, in a voice that actually sounds like you.
